It's been a fun season. We are enjoying the changing colors of Fall (but not the changing weather, which for us is rain, rain and a little more rain. We had a busy week. Wednesday we had a Halloween craft party with the little ones then Darlene and Danny came to bring us lots of games and fun. Friday the rain held off while we had Trunk or Treat at the Church. And today is Halloween. We are having a warm and sweet free dinner at grandma and grandpa's, then off to the neighborhood houses to see who's 'out' and gather some treats. The adults are all ready to 'check out the candy bags' and remove anything suspicious or delicious. Parents especially like to claim the chocolates. Don't act suprised - we all do it!
I read an idea I liked at FamilyFun.com. To keep the children from eating too much sugar the 'Candy Fairy' will leave a message on the answering machine (or voice mail). She says she has a candy shortage and asks for bags of candy to be left by the front door. When the 'Candy Fairy' collects the candy she leaves a small toy in exchange. She often donates the candy to shelters and other charities. Of course, the children who collected the candy get to keep a portion of it before they give it away.
Personally, I'm looking for the dentists who give away toothbrushes.
With Halloween on the run, I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving and Christmas. Having the children around adds a fullness to our lives and makes everything more fun!
